A Week In The Workshop 139

Hi everyone. Apologies for Friday's mess-up with the truncated ad-free members video. A YouTube glitch required me to re-upload, and then it was stuck in copyright check forever. Anyway, all sorted now, and aside from that disappointment I hope you had a good week, and are having a great weekend!

In this video there’s a bit of business news with some comments on pricing, and I go into the pros and cons of the MFT jigs in a little more detail.

The finished result ie the MFT top, was pretty much identical from each of the methods I showed in Fridays video, so your buying decision comes down to other factors, and I go through these in a little more detail than I had tome for in the public vid and I expand on that new product that I mentioned as well.

Enjoy!

Peter

Thanks Peter, very helpful review of those 3 methods of producing the MFT holes.

I was thinking of using an existing MFT top and cutting through the holes with a template bit. (I want to make a different shape worksurface.) There seems to be a good chance of cocking up the template but I wondered if you thought that was practicable or would be too inaccurate?

I bought one many years ago to try that out - see the latest blog post - but never got around to it. It’s do-able - I know someone who did it - but a lot of work because of the relatively tiny circular movements you need to make with a flush trimming / template bit. One comment was that they needed to screw the two together because clamping them wasn’t enough. A lot of work, by all accounts.

Thanks Peter - thoughtful and useful information as always. So, no choice really now but to wait for your jig to be unveiled and see what it's all about! No pressure ;)
