AWITW 309: 52 vs 16

Can I just remind everyone here at Wix that the new Forums on the Discourse platform are up and running and working well. This does mark a general move away from the Wix website; Wix has lost any trust I had since they bluntly closed the Forum app, so while I’m cross-posting member videos here at Wix and over on discourse for now, I will phase that out over the course of this month November, and expect to be posting exclusively over on Discourse from December onwards.
If you haven’t already familiarised yourself with the Discourse forums then head over at your convenience by hitting the New Forums link in the header, or go directly there with the link below.
There’s a brief explainer post on the discourse platform and the 10MW forums here -
For all 10MW Plus members
Hi everyone. A longer video today as there’s a bit to discuss around the forums and notifications, and would appreciate some of feedback from you about how you access the exclusive member content.
There’s a bit of chat around some strange pricing structures - a bit like power tools, there’s entry-level of full-fat Pro level, and not much in between, and wether we’re talking 3D CAD software, translation websites or a simple invoicing plug-in the choice we seem to be forced into is making do with the free level as it’s hard to make a case for anything else.
I’m still gathering bits and pieces for the Gift List video, hopefully to come out this Friday, 21st, so I’ll have a short list for everyone in the Wednesday mid-week. Last years ‘print it out and leave it lying around hopefully’ list was popular, so I’ll try and get that together again for this year - and maybe include last years list in there as well…
There’s some riving knife discussion and how they work a little differently on a plunge saw vs a table saw - particularly around kickback - and I broke out the new TS60 saw and made a full depth cut in my usual slab of cherry; honestly that 52-tooth stock Festool bade has no right to be able to cut that well! I also gave it a try with the Trend 16-tooth blade which also did great job, albeit with a noticeably poorer finish, as you’d expect.
In other news Benchdogs have revised the hinged rail dogs - already - and replaced the grub screws with little thumbscrews (which will also take a hex key) and now have the option of a shorter 65mm bench dog; there’s a set of these on the way as well as the set for the Mafell/Bosch rails, which should be interesting.
I have received - too late for this video - the 3D printed handle for the older-style Domino, so I’ll try and report back on that as soon as I can, but as always there’s a million things to do and only a few hours to do them in!
And finally I’d like to say thank you so much to Alan who has been looking after the back-end of the website and oversaw the move to the Discourse forums; Alan has sadly had to retire from the role and I’m sure you’d like to like to join me in wishing him all the very best for the future, thanks Alan!
And thanks everyone for your continued support. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and do pop a comment down below about the forums, and the continuing popularity - at least by views - of the wix blog posts; remember, these are going away at the end of the month with all future posts being in the new forum.
Good weekend all! Peter

I also use the email and embedded links to access the videos
I've installed the discourse app but can't find 10 minuteworkshop
I’m using the email notifications
Being honest I clicked on the link in the emails I received. I haven’t really done much with the forums, old or new.
On Wednesday, I clicked on a link in the Discourse notification email, I had spent some time trying to set up notifications on Discourse so when I got that email I though that I had achieved my objective. I am not sure that I have succeeded, though - because I received a Wix notification today but no notification from Discourse.
However, I did try to access the video from the Discourse forum, rather than Wix. I went to this link: https://10minuteworkshop.discourse.group/c/exclusive-member-videos/12 which I think should be where the video is to be found. I can see AWITW 308 and AWITW 307 but no sign of AWITW 309. So, is it me or something else?
I view and comment using Firefox…
