AWITW 310: Ikea drawers, and tracksaw sleds

With the Gift List video out of the way and doing OK I was tasked with a quick and dirty repair on a drawer from an Ikea drawer unit - an Alex, if memory serves. Anyway the back of the drawer had bowed and the base was dropping out of the slot and snagging the drawer below, so I opted to the easiest fix, which was to prise it apart a little, apply glue and clamp it back together - but carefully, so as not to distort the shape! Worked out OK in the end - let’s see how long it lasts!

I’ve had a lot of questions from the Gift List video about the Gary Banks tracksaw sled - will it work with Makita saws, evolution guide rails etc… [side bar; I don’t understand why people feel compelled to ask me this, instead of following the links and asking the guy who makes it, but it happens a lot!] Anyway, I have a Makita saw still and some Makita track so I tried it out and - spoiler - the anti-tip lip gets in the way. But it’s an easy fix, which I’ve suggested to Gary and we should see an either a whole separate version coming along, or an adaptation of this one that’ll do both styles of rail. As I said to him, the more saws and tracks it fits, the bigger the addressable market is.

And even if you only need to make extreme bevels occasionally, it’s actually a really nice solid sled that’ll give you a step up for regular 45° bevels too.

In all the excitement I completely forgot to say that I have (I think) 10 of the ‘occasional cabinetmakers hinge drilling and marking guides’ available as giveaways. I’ll put them up in the forum later today; these were the ones that I made before adding the positions for the inset door stop - I’ve drilled  for those  positions so you’ll be able to mark them with an awl. I’m just working on a description of what it all does - it’s a lot!

And finally as I mentioned in a post in the website feedback forum, I’ve made a small change to the notifications which I hope will keep everyone aware of when I post my member videos, without drowning everyone in subsequent noise. We’ll see!
