Hi everyone. In this one I think I’ve completed my Square Enough 3D journey to arrive at something that I’m pretty happy with; if I’ve got myself together the files will be in the forum by the time this video’s posted - and if I haven’t then they’ll be there soon.

There’s still a couple of things I’d need to add if it ever becomes a commercial product - 10MW branding for example, which isn’t trivial because of how it’s printed - but for the most part I can call this one done.

I’ve had a few further thoughts on the Kreg not-a-Dominio jointing machine and I realised there’s probably a video to be done about what I’d say were the ‘easy wins’ that any manufacturer entering the loose tenon landscape could use to separate themselves out from the pack, gain traction, and make sales; let me know what you think, or if you think there’s any that I’ve missed - I’ll list them below and flesh them out in the vid.

I’ve also been keeping an eye on the comments section of the Kreg launch video and at the time of writing there’s close to 500 comments and I’d say half of them are complaining about it being cordless only. Battery fatigue is real and I don’t mean swapping out the dead cells in your old NiCads. The impression I get is that a lot of folks would rather forgo a product than commit to another battery platform - I definitely saw this when I did my Festool tablesaw video, and it clearly hasn’t gone away.

Manufacturers jump on ‘cordless’ as moat they can dig around their products to keep competitors out, but the reality is that it’s also keeping consumers out and it definitely costs sales. I absolutely 100% see the business case for it - if you’re on the platform then you’ll naturally look favourably on that platform’s tools for future purchases - but I think a lot of folks have just had enough of it - especially when you consider that a battery platform that stops being supported would render your tools useless.

Anyway, that’s all for this week. Enjoy your bank holiday / public holiday weekend and I’ll catch you in the midweek.

Cheers all!

Peter
