I was going to say, the Japanese are masters of making small equipment for small spaces. And that stuff has made it around the world now. When I lived there, I think they had a high powered excavator that folded up into your back pocket (ha ha, not really, but...) Glad the progress is real.
In the US the bring a crane to drop off the heavy equipment, they charge ridiculous amounts of money to hand dig trenches, works out to probably $100 an hour.. But our service charges are way higher than the UK. I rented a small digger and dug my own french drains when building a new shop, it was the best weekend ever :)
There are mini diggers that will fit through a 2ft 6inch door. I have no idea why they are not more widely used - I first saw one a couple of decades ago and have wanted to hire one ever since. - yes I am lazy when it comes to digging holes.......
