For all 10MW Plus members
In this one I’ll eventually be taking a quick look at the Festool FSV/2 guiderail connectors, and wether or not they can really be worth the £43 asking price, and we’ll also have a quick history tour of rails and connectors. Enjoy!

For me, the Betterley alignment tool did not work well. Just realized, I have zero clue where it is within the house. When I find it, off it goes onto the auction block.
The black strips under the tracks maintain their grip quite well. Which meant the Betterley alignment tool could not do an adequate job — even when I lifted the tracks to “let go” of the plywood being cut.
Also, each time you move the connected tracks for the next rip cut, the alignment gets thrown off at the joint where the two tracks meet up. Takes too much time and effort to re-align the tracks.
I like Peter’s trick of using a long level to help…
After some near misses when I got my first pair of Festool Guide rails and connectors, I dug deep for the Betterley (no affiliation) guide rail alignment tool. I'd use it on compatible track regardless of track connector type. It makes aligning guide tracks beyond simple.
I was just taking a window shop on Amazon and found these - at £17.99 for two sets of Makita style they seem pretty cheap -

Felt very much like a ‘classic’ 10MW video and good to get back to tool tips and decent explanations of the options. Still missing the jingle though.
The other option is to make your own longer guide rail as covered in the Guide Rail series. I did just that, and despite all my care over straightness of the central rib using a long spirit level I still feel its slightly off. So one day I’ll either buy another 1.4m Festool or will get the 3m Makita. A lot of money either way just for ripping full sized sheets
Grub screws are M6, Namrick or Westfield should be able to sort you out.
