Small Saw, Wide Blade [member edit]

For all 10MW Plus members

In this one I’ll be fitting a wide-kerf flat ground grooving blade to the little Festool table saw, and I’ll look at what I needed to do the saw to make that work, why I’d want to do this, and for what end result.

Be aware that making a non-through cut like this will require the manufacturers blade guard to be removed. Your safety is your responsibility; I would not attempt this personally on a saw that doesn’t have a sliding table and if you feel at all uncomfortable when considering cuts like these you should not attempt them.

I’m not recommending that anyone does this, this video simply shows what I I have done to achieve them, so you can make an informed decision before buying a costly blade.

Nicely done Peter - that was more straightforward than I’d anticipated.

Another option might be a small jig to allow a Domino oriented at 90’ to the length, and pointing straight down, to cut the slots up to 10mm width at a time. You’d need sacrificial strips sandwiching both sides, and shims to tune the plunge depth - a lot less elegant than your approach.

Still, if your only tool is a Domino, everything looks like a slightly rounded rectangular hole 😃

Thanks Eddy! Yes, feels like a lot of work, the Domino option! I think a router and jig may be better if that was the way you wanted to go, but honestly all the alternatives just make you realise how good this blade is, in a saw with a slifing table or some other way to make the cuts safely. 👍

Loved the side support Peter, who needs a more fancy solution?
