For all 10MW Plus members*
Hi everyone. There’s a bit more progress on the stool project this week, and it turns out I was right all along - splaying the legs out really makes it much harder to build with simple tools! Hey ho, I’ll figure it out…
In other news the replacement tops for the Metabo and Excel benches have arrived from Derek at Carved CNC - thanks Derek! - and they look fantastic.
In late-breaking news after this video was ready to go, Derek has already sold his Yeti CNC, so apologies to anyone getting unnecessarily excited about the prospect; I’ll link Derek’s details below anyway so you can give him a follow on Instagram...
Not sure about the availability of the replacement tops just yet - perhaps Derek can update us with a comment and a link when they’re in his store - but they definitely look like a significant upgrade to the OEM tops - assuming you’re not relying on their ‘unique features’ - and being able to use standard benchdogs without a hammer and a set of grips is a definite bonus!
I’ll get these fitted in their frames as soon as I can, but I’ll call this one done for this week.
Thanks so much everyone for your amazing support, and I’ll catch Behind the Scenes, Marking Out and At The Bench members in the midweek.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Peter

I find Wickes OK!
Hey Peter, seems like you had some trouble identifying which part is which. I saw a video recently about that topic, just can't find it at the moment 😁 🤡
Excited to see how many versions of the step stool there will be until you have perfected it.
It's crazy (in a good sense) how much "work" goes into such a seemingly simple piece of furniture.
The replacement table tops, great. But probably unaffordable here in Germany. Not just because of the price of the tops, but rather because of the shipping costs. Just for the rail hinge pivots, I sat on my ass in shock!
And: I would miss the milled recesses on Metabo. At first I thought it was unnecessary, but now I don't want to be without it anymore.
Then I have another suggestion for improvement. Mill holes directly to enable the installation of Benchdogs rail hinges.
Busy week. The stool prototype, as you say, is coming along nicely. I like the Domino wing stops. Have had lots of larger builds to use them on (outdoor projects).
