AWITW 270: Angled dowels?

Hi everyone! I’ve been bogged down with admin again this week - Friday afternoon was the first chance I’d had to get into the workshop to do any actual work since last Tuesday, when I shot the Midweek! Anyway, I carved out a bit of time to try my angled dowels, and they worked well, as you'll see later in the video.

Thanks so much for your kind comments re Wednesdays 3 hours in the dentists chair - and a brief follow-up visit on Thursday too, for good measure. All well, next visit is in a couple of weeks when hopefully I’ll be finished with it for a while.

I had a setback with the whole EU safety GPSR thing where the company that’s dealing with it messed up and had to re-key all my product data; thankfully after some foot-stamping on my part they agreed that it was their job to do, not mine, but goodness me it doesn’t give you a lot of faith in the service that I’m paying for!

As I mention in the vid I don’t think it’s something that’s worth discussing in a public facing video, but if anyone want to know the process and the costs involved let me know below and I’ll put something together; bottom line is that- aside from the initial time and attention required - it’s actually now costing me less for GPSR compliance, EU VAT for products and EU VAT for downloads, than it was for just the EU VAT alone, and significantly less than the renewal cost that I was quoted. And it’s a more streamlined process too.

The plans for the ‘Italic’ side table should hopefully be up in the forum by the time this lands, but again, it’s not something I want to rush out of the door as they need to be accurate; as usual I’ll make them available here before making them publicly available, and if you’d be kind enough to give them a proof-read I’d appreciate it, thanks!

I was pleased how well the angled dowels worked, and surprisingly solid too; proof perhaps, that you don’t have to make things complicated, and sometimes simple works just as well!

Anyway, that’s all for now as I need to get those plans finished.

Thanks everyone for your amazing support, enjoy the rest of the weekend and I’ll catch you again in the midweek.

Peter

The dowel method worked rather well Peter and could make a nice feature if drilled through and a contrasting wooden dowel made 👍

Thanks Bill! Yes, really pleased with how this went; was idly wondering if you could actually use counterbored confirmat screws and just dowel over the heads! 🤷‍♂️
