Hi everyone!

I managed to carve out a bit of tie to record something before I went away as I wanted to try a couple of things out, one on the table saw and one on the Festool drilling guide.

The table saw trick is to get a blade-kerf width piece of material that I can use as a peg - worked well, if a little scary. The Drilling guide was to see if the rail adapter could be used with an LR32 style rail, particularly with James from MakHack’s rail adapter. Unfortunately the stock item doesn’t quite fit on the rods, but it’s only a small discrepancy and should be easily solved; James reckons he can have one for me next week so I’ll keep you posted!

In other news I’m now a Woodworkers Workshop affiliate, and you can use the offer code “10minuteworkshop” at checkout for a 5% discount on most things at https://woodworkersworkshop.co.uk/?ref=YUDlxZ4f

Apparently there’s a few items that don’t have enough margin to off 5% site-wide, but if they have anything of particular interest then try the code and see.

WWW also have an amazon store - link below - which may work out better for smaller items if you’re eg an Amazon Prime member.

Anyway, that’s all for now; enjoy the rest of the weekend and I’ll catch you in the week.

If you have the LR32 rail could you put a pin in the rail drill hole and butt the steel connector on the drill jig connector (rail traveller to drill stand) to give you the spacing needed - then move the pin to the next LR32 hole......

Hi Rob, thanks for the message, I see whatyou mean, using a pin to bear against the rods on the rail adapter. Couple of issues there, firstly I don't think that would be precise enough as there's very little to keep the pin perpendicular, and secondly the holes you're drilling wont be inline with the holes in the LR32, and I know from my usage that being able to align the rail using the holes - rather than trying to line up the adapter - is much easier. The MakHack sprung pin will do a better job I think - and when it arrives I'll be the first to test it out!

Thanks, Peter

Peter,

I am slightly puzzled about why you bothered to measure the thickness of the shim. Why not run a groove and try it for fit?

P.s.

I would not be inclined to buy silicon chisel protectors - a bit hard …

Visual gratification? "Look, it's only 1/100th of a mm out, that'll do! 😄" And yeah, I think I could pretty much guarantee that if I had just offered it up, someone would be saying 'that's all very well but it would be interesting to see if you'd measured it, how close it actually was...' 👍
