[**Gifted/Ad] In this video I #revisit my hybrid #Microjig #Matchfit #MFT after eight months of use to see how I’m getting on with the system. Enjoy!

** The Matchfit Dovetail clamp system from MicroJig was supplied for review by #WoodWorkersWorkshop. I have not been paid to make this video or say nice things about the product. Visit woodworkersworkshop.co.uk for the full range of MicroJig products.

I would like a definition of a dovetail clap …

I was never really impressed by the system. It seemed an awful lot of effort to do something that could be done with a 20mm hole. I suppose that it would be useful as an auxiliary top for a solid bench top where you did not want to drill or rout the surface.

Thought I'd edited that! Must have not saved it 😂 I think the system has it's uses for auxiliary fences etc... but not something I'm likely to use, and I'm not convinced it's any better than a simple routed t-slot - though probably easier to fish things out of the slots!

One word "propriety" and I turn away. It looks like an interesting system. I've got to find the first video that you did on it but it's not like they reinvented the wheel. I'm sure Microjig would get a lot more buy in if it wasn't a propriety system 🤷‍♂️. Also Peter, that's a whole lotta "first world problems" 😁 in that video

It has just occurred to me that the Microfit slots can only do clamping at right angles. Whereas with a regular MFT, the clamp can be turned 360 degrees to hold something down where ever it's needed. Just an observation.

Yes! It seemed like a slightly silly/obvious thing to say in the video (so I didn’t ) but if you’re used to a clamp in a hole that can rotate freely, it’s actually very restricting! 👍🤷‍♂️

Hello Peter,

if you want to have an alternative to the microjig then here is a link to a T-Nut Table video:

Thanks! I do have a t-slot cutter for a future top. 👍

The telling point for me was your immediate use of the holes to clamp the first two parts before demonstrating accessing the third part with the dovetail clamp. Is there a use case the dovetail clamps fulfill that the hole based clamps can not?

Not for me, no. They are good for jigs and auxiliary fences, but I’m not convinced they’re any better than regular t-slots in that case. 🙌👍
