Hi everyone. Just wanted to give you a quick update on the latest version of the rail hinge. I mentioned at the weekend that Richard Layton had been sending me some designs for hs version of the hinge pivot, and I got around to making one yesterday, and expanding on it today, and its excellent. At a stroke it takes away the complexity of the pivot positioning, and simplifies the process with just two pivots.
It is a slightly more complex cut-out for the hinge riser now, as it had to be notched for the pivots, and one of the things I want to try is to see if I can make the cuts easily without using the bandsaw. Bandsaw is the perfect tool for these kind of cuts of course, but I’m conscious that not everyone will have one - whereas you can pretty much guarantee they’ll have a plunge saw if they’re interested in a rail hinge! 😂
There’s a few other tweaks and things to pay some attention to, but all things considered I’m really happy with the direction this is taking, and look forwards to getting one put together in plywood.
Thanks everyone who’s taken a look at the new website (10minuteworkshop.com) and members area (10minuteworkshop.plus) and I really appreciate the feedback. Again, very much a work in progress, but we're getting there.
One thing I clearly haven’t explained well enough is that I’m running this site in parallel with the Patreon and YouTube Members platforms until it’s ready for prime-time. At that point - and only then - will I switch on the paid tiers and benefits, and everyone will have plenty of warning about it; it’s certainly many weeks away, if not months, so for the moment all I ask is that you create an account and log in, have a rummage around and see if there’s anything that could make it a better experience for everyone, as that’s largely the point of it all.
I’ll leave it there for this one though - just wanted to give you a rail update. Thank you for all your amazing support and I’ll catch you at the weekend.
