After the recent vlog I had a lot of folks ask me what the other saws were that I considered on the path that led me to the little Festool cordless trim saw, so I thought I’d do a quick talking head video about how it came about, and what my reasons were. Enjoy!
VERY jealous, looking forward to the videos where you use the saw in anger. Also, "Goldilocks saw..." love that!
I went through a similar list of options back in autumn 2021, albeit with a somewhat smaller budget.
I think my workshop is a roughly similar size to yours and I narrowed it down to the smaller Axminster craft saw (AC216 I believe) or the DeWalt site saw. Like you it came down to noise and dust, I have neighbours and value my lungs and hearing so went for the Axminster - it's a great saw and I'm really pleased with it, after making a wheeled stand for it it's a really handy machine for the small workshop.
Looking forward to seeing how you get on with the Festool, had it existed two years ago I'd have been sorely tempted…
Like you Peter whenever I am making a larger purchase I set out my wants and limits. Then I throw everything on to an Excel spreadsheet and evaluate all the pros and cons. Thanks for the rundown on the saws it was very illuminating. However prices are somewhat more expensive so here in New Zealand I ended up buying a cast iron table top saw second hand and refurbishing it.
I predict that Festool in around fours years time (or hopefully less) launch an enhanced version, slightly deeper in build with a new proprietary SawStop stop unit. This will be when sales start levelling off and they need more hours of reviews on Youtube.
Really entertaining video, Peter. It does give me a chuckle when you mimic the "nonsense comment bloke" 😂
