A Week In The Workshop 146

Direct video link - https://youtu.be/ku9pHWK1i00

Hi everyone. It’s been full-on footstool again this week, and in this AWITW it’s all about my first attempt with the Danish Cord weave - and where it all goes wrong!

It’s a slow process and a longer video, but there’s a sneaky peek of the finished framework in Walnut, and wow, that colour sure does pop when you get a coat of oil on it!

I had a great question about Plus from Laura Werner on Patreon who asked about then payment processing side of things, especially with regard to security. As you’ve probably realised, the Plus site is built on the Wix platform - an all-in-one content management system (CMS) along the lines of Squarespace - and like Squarespace e-commerce, Shopify and many other large commercial outfits they use Stripe as the payment processor. Amongst other things Stripe accepts Apple Pay, which allows you to keep all personal details, email address etc… hidden from the merchant, if you choose, and there’s the option to use PayPal, of course, if you prefer.

I hope that helps reassure you that this isn’t something I’ve cobbled together myself, and I’m happy to answer any questions you might have.

One other question I had was wether there’s an app you can use and yes there is; it’s the Wix ‘Spaces’ app, and it’s pretty good; I use it to manage most of the day to day running of the publicly-accessible parts of the site, and I’ll link it up down below. I do have the option of getting a 10MinuteWorkshop branded app put together, but I suspect it would just be a ‘skinned’ version of the Spaces app, so I’m not 100% convinced it would be worth the money they’re asking! Let me know in the comments if you like the idea of a 10MinuteWorkshop app, and if it’s something you could see yourself using.

Edited to add; looks like the spaces app need an invitation to this site - http://wix.to/FFMKp5h?ref=cl should do it, I think, or use invite code PPSQ98

The first 10MinuteWorkshop newsletter goes out today; this is also something that’s been a long time coming, and while it’s mostly aimed at non-members who are perhaps on the fence about signing up, I’ve tried to make it of interest to everyone. The first issue is very much about pushing the Plus platform, subsequent newsletters will be a bit more chatty, more about behind the scenes of what’s been, and previews of what’s coming.

I’ll leave it there for now though; thank you for your amazing support, enjoy the rest of the weekend and I’ll catch you in the week.

Peter
