Mid-week Mirka

Direct video link - https://youtu.be/BkiGIRHh5Qw

Just a quick mid-week to chat about the new sanders that arrived today, Mirka’s Deros and Deos. Been a while since I bought a ‘proper’ new tool, and I’m looking forwards to giving these a good run out.

As I mentioned last weekend, I’m away this Sunday, so not sure if I’ll get anything out for then as I’m keen to get started on with the next public-facing video; if I don’t I’ll sort something for early next week.

Thanks as always, and I’ll catch you later

Peter

Have you tried the Trend abrasive, I have found it last well and doesn’t tear easy.

Yes, I’ve had some a while. It’s OK, more robust than most mesh abrasives certainly, though I don’t like the ‘universal’ hole pattern that doesn’t seem to match the hole pattern in any sander pad own. 🤷‍♂️👍

When I worked in PR in London year's ago, we would have loved someone like yourself Peter to evaluate and hopefully promote our client's products. That said, our biggest headache working with the media and often those that put obstacles in our way, were the marketing guys who should have been there to help, but often preferred to hinder our efforts. Seems nothing has changed!😫

Did you have any discussion with the Mirka reps about the Metabo SXE 150? Is there confirmation it's an exact clone or are there any differences - apart from being £100 cheaper of course :)

I talked a little bit about this in AWITW 151 James; basically I was at the Mirka event with a couple of other guys who were Mirka fans, so I was the only person asking the awkward questions, and I forgot completely to ask about the Metabo while I was there. I did ask afterwards, as it does seem to be the pre-bluetooth Deros in a Metabo suit, and I was curious about the relationship ie wether it's made under license, if it's made by Mirka and re-branded - in which case who's responsible for warranty repairs etc.. etc.. and the answer I got back was; 'that's under an NDA, we can't discuss it'. So much for being open and…

Do you still have the little Bosch sander from you Cheap Tool vs Festool series? Would be really interested in a comparison as that is my main detail sander but I'm thinking of upgrading, mainly because of dust collection (no 'holey' pad for sanding net available) and vibration. As for the video introducing these machines, tool reviews (even just quick introductions) used to do really well on YT, don't know if that's still the case but I'd say go for it, might get you a few new viewers who stick around.

I passed the Bosch along to my son when he was doing some decorating, but I guess I could get it back for a quick comparison - though for a pubic-facing YouTube video I think bringing Festool into it usually generates a bit more buzz! 👍

Dear Peter Love the Yellow sustainers. So in my other wood working hobby (lutherie) sanding and sandpaper are anathema, so I’m always amused when you have “sanding” as a topic. Keep up the good work, your stuff is always informative and engaging. Something about the two sanders would be interesting for me since sanding isn’t something that I have any real experience of. BTW your video on the used sander pad with knob attached was how I got hooked on your channel.

Ha! Thanks Adrian! I still use those old sander pads, they work well! 😂👍
