Hi everyone. In this one I ‘fess up to what went awry with the Domino XL purchase (my fault entirely - this buyer wasn't 'beware' enough!) and you get to witness me use it for the first time. Oh, and there’s a bit of other chat as well!
Thanks, as always, for being part of plus, and I’ll catch you in the week.
Peter
Edited to add; the Domino XL has cleaned up pretty well, and seems to be in good nick, other than a bit of surface rust I can’t quite reach. 👍
Yeah - that stings a bit.... with the Domino .... He's probably broken the bits previously and is embarrassed to admit it.... 🤦🏼 - You've risen above the situation Peter and that's commendable ..... and you may not need the whole range of bits I'd have thought anyway..... looking forward to the MAX invention soon

I am always a bit chery about buying used kit and a power tool I did buy used turned out to be a bit similar to your experience with the XL. I had taken it in good faith and it was delivered by courier, but from the get go, I was quite disappointed, as to use an Ebay term it was not as described. As it was heavy and awkward I was not looking forward to the hassle of repacking and sending it back and then I thought, hang on a mo, I paid with PayPal, so gave them a call and they sorted it for me. The seller gave me the cold shoulder, but after a short wait I…
Peter -
So sorry you got stiffed on the cutters and have to do extra maintenance just to get the tool in top operating condition. It's a shame because this gives everyone pause on purchasing a secondhand tool and it shouldn't be that way. If people were up front about condition and gave you the opportunity to make an informed decision it wouldn't be so bad. Things like this leave you feeling cheated. Sorry it happened to you. Love the way your cabinet came out by the way!
All the best,
Evan
Drawer cabinet looking good, despite the not great layers in the birch ply substitute, I like it! I've always heard those sticks referred to as tongue depressors.
That guy is a dickhead. Based on the surface corrosion and dust on the DF700, I'd say that wasn't stored in the systainer, it's been sitting out on a shelf/bench for quite a while, in a shed or garage. HOWEVER, it's in good working order, so that's the main thing and now you can start tinkering!
I've just this evening ordered a second hand df700 on eBay - with 3 cutters and most of a systainer full of tenons for £850, I'm pretty happy with that! Looks to be in excellent condition and recently serviced by Festool, so let's hope it's a goodun 🤞
Even with your missing cutters I reckon you still got a good deal, a shame about the surface rust and general grubbiness though... It's a real shame about the seller's behaviour though, t's why I'm always dubious buying sight unseen without eBay/PayPal backup. Chalk it up to experience I guess, hopefully it'll clean up well at least!
