AWITW 314: That’s an odd-sized blade…

Hi everyone. It’s all saws this week as I follow up on the jigsaw chat in the forum with a couple of blade suggestions, and I take a first look at the fascinating Vevor cordless plunge saw, courtesy of Michael in Germany, who very generously has sent his saw over to me just to give it a once-over - thanks Michael!
Like a lot of people I started out with a cheap jigsaw and had really poor results from it, so I’ve never bothered with them much after that, other than specific tasks like scribing an infill.
The two Festool blades that Gary suggested made a huge difference to the quality of cut overall, and Anton’s suggestion to switch off the pendulum made the whole tool much easier to handle too!
I would very much like to try out the Mafell Cunex blades, but don’t have a jigsaw to fit them into unfortunately, and buying the Mafell P1CC just to use the blade is like buying a suit to see how it looks with the tie, so not likely to happen any time soon - unless I can convince the guys at ProTrade to lend me one... 🤔
So the Vevour plunge saw is an interesting confection, and seems to tick all the entry-level saw boxes on the wish-list; single battery 18v cordless, Makita battery platform, variable speed, soft start and electronic brake, lightweight brushless motor and excellent quality of cut from the stock blade. What’s not to like?
Well [SPOILER] the blade size is only 140mm rather than the usual 160 or 165, so the depth is cut is limited to 45mm or so on the rail. That seems an odd choice in an otherwise full-sized saw, though my concerns about the blade size restricting availability are unfounded as a simple search shows there’s plenty of choice.
On a practical level though, how would you feel about this? Given that plunge saws are often mainly used for sheet goods, would this be a factor that puts you off the saw, given how good everything else seems to be?
There’s definitely some more to come on this, but that will be for another day, and likely another year as this will be my last formal A Week In The Workshop video of the year; I may pop a couple of quickies in and I’ll be checking in on the forums, but I’ll be with family for the next couple of weeks, and I imagine you will be too.
So thank you very much to the 10MinuteWorkshop family, enjoy the break, and I’ll catch you all again very soon.
Best wishes everyone!
Peter

The Vevor is supplied with the 140mm blade, but looking at the size of the casing it may be able to take a bigger blade. I wonder if the blade size is a consequence of a single battery, I assume a bigger blade may reduce run times or even get bogged down, just thinking out loud 🤷.
It's interesting that Vevor are offering products with the Makita battery platform.
The likes of Mafell, Metabo and others have teamed up with their own common battery platform which makes it much more interesting to buy into those ranges. I can see it's a great strategy for them.
For Vevor to have picked the Makita battery platform would seem to open up a market for them to existing users of the Makita platform that as far as I'm aware not many others are doing. They're unlikely to get as much market traction with their own batteries
You suggested that they might be able to support other battery platforms using adapters with different pin connectors. And I know that there are…
Quite an interesting new saw. I looked at the Vevor US site and they show a corded and battery saw, but both are "out of stock", curious...🤔
